1. In that little rosewood casket That is resting on my stand Is a package of old letters Written by a cherished hand.
2. Will you get them now, dear sister ? Will you read them o'er to me ? For oft times I've tried to read them But for tears I could not see.
3. Read these precious lines so slowly That I may miss not even one,
For the cherished hand that wrote them, His last work for me is done.
4. Tell him that I never blamed him; Not an unkind word was spoke. Tell him, sister, tell, oh, tell him That my heart was doubdess broke.
5. Tell him that I never blamed him Though he's proved to me untrue. Tell him that I'll never forget him Till I bid this world adieu. |
